I met with Shambhu Oja yesterday concerning potential speakers for WIPP. As follows is a brief description of the two individuals that we discussed, and possible issues that WIPP would need to address before we can get these speakers.
The Nepalese Ambassador to the United States
Ambassador Shrestha was the Royal Nepalese Ambassador to the European Union before gaining his post in the United States. WIPP would need to send an official letter to the Royal Nepalese Embassy, requesting that the Ambassador come speak at Cornell. As Ambassador Shrestha is located in Washington DC, it would be relatively cheap for WIPP to fly him to Ithaca for a presentation. We would need to determine the total costs before sending the letter.
For more information go to the Royal Nepalese Embassy site.
South Asia Regional Director, UNIFEM
Chandni Joshi is the Regional Programme Director of UNIFEM for South Asia. Her daughter attended Ithaca College a few years ago and she still has fairly strong ties in the Ithaca area (for instance, she remains good friends with Prof. March). As such it would be a fairly easy prospect to get Ms. Joshi to give a presentation for WIPP. However, she is located in New Delhi, India and WIPP would need to find the funds to bring her to Ithaca. We could possibly cosponsor the event or could apply to the GPSA for funding, among other available options.
For more information to the the UNIFEM site.
